LYNNWOOD, Wash. — The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) said its detectives are now investigating after authorities learned one of the suspects in a weekend shooting involving Lynnwood police was injured.
The Lynnwood Police Department said officers were called just after 7 p.m. for an unrelated theft call in the Target parking lot on Alderwood Mall Parkway. Officers spotted a stolen Hyundai target a 13-year-old and 15-year-old walking through the parking lot. Police said the suspects intentionally struck the 15-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground with minor injuries. Investigators said there appears to be no relationship between the 13-year-old, 15-year-old, and the suspects in the stolen Hyundai.
According to police, the stolen Hyundai took off, leading officers on a short pursuit onto the Interstate 5 southbound on-ramp. Officers stopped the stolen vehicle using a PIT maneuver when the suspects started repeatedly shooting at law enforcement. Police returned fire and the suspects fled on foot. No officers were injured in the shooting, according to a Lynnwood police spokesperson.
On Tuesday, police learned there was an 18-year-old Lynnwood man receiving treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds at a Portland hospital. Police believe the 18-year-old may have been one of the three suspects.
