MIDLAND, Wash. — Detectives with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department are searching for a man accused of luring and raping a 19-year-old woman in Midland.

According to PCSD, the assault happened on May 17 at 11:30 a.m. near the Kings Manor Senior Living Facility on Portland Avenue East. The suspect allegedly lured the victim into nearby woods after telling her that he needed help with an injured cat. He then reportedly punched her, knocked her down and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect then fled, and the victim went back into the facility, where she worked, to call for help.

The man is wanted for second-degree rape.

According to PCSD, the suspect is between 55 and 65 years old, over 6 feet tall and weighs more than 300 lbs. He was also wearing a neck gaiter at the time of the attack. Below is a sketch of the suspect:

"This could happen at random, to somebody else," said Pierce County Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss.

He said detectives and the sketch artist were grateful the woman was able to provide them with a detailed description of the man. "With those types of descriptions, we think he must stick out. Somebody recognizes this person."

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows anything about the crime is urged to contact PCSD or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
