SEATTLE — The driver of a stolen motorcycle is in the hospital Monday morning after being shot in the back in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) said it first got reports of the shooting around 2 a.m. Monday morning at 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 80th Street. A 33-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the lower back. The victim thought he heard fireworks going off, but quickly realized he had been shot.
Emergency crews treated the victim and took him to Harborview Medical Center, according to police.
A witness told police the man was riding a motorcycle when they were shot. At the scene, police said they learned that the motorcycle the victim was riding was reported stolen from Redmond. The motorcycle was returned to its owner, police said.
No suspects have been identified, police said. Investigators have not determined if the shooting was random or targeted.
