The driver involved in a wrong-way crash that killed two soldiers in Pierce County on Sunday has been charged with vehicular homicide.
Candy Soita, 23, is facing two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault.
According to court documents, Soita was driving the wrong way on SR 512 at 2 a.m. on June 2 when she collided with another vehicle head-on near E Canyon Rd.
The two soldiers killed in the crash were identified as Spc. Charles T. Fairbairn, 29, and Spc. Wendell T. Cerio, 22, and were stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. A third soldier in the car was taken to a hospital with injuries and has since been released.
The documents said Soita was traveling with her one-year-old daughter at the time of the crash. The infant was not injured.
Soita was transported to the hospital where troopers reportedly smelled intoxicants coming from her breath and said she had watery bloodshot eyes, according to the documents.
Soita's preliminary breath test registered as .097 approximately four hours after the collision.
