EDMONDS, Wash. — The Edmonds Police Department issued a public safety alert Friday as officers continue to search for a suspect accused of shooting and killing a rideshare driver.

Abudulkadir Shariff Gedi, 31, was killed in his car near 236th Street Southwest and Edmonds Way on Wednesday night. Police said there is no known connection between Gedi and the suspect.

“This type of incident shakes a community, and it is difficult for all of us to fathom," said Edmonds Police Chief Michelle Bennett. "We are aggressively pursuing the person responsible for this senseless killing, and we will work tirelessly to get them off the streets to face justice."

Edmonds police also ask the public to check surveillance and dash cam video before and after 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The suspect is described as a male in his teens to early 20s with curly dark hair. He was wearing a hoodie and all-black clothing.

“We know someone knows something,” the department said in a statement. “We encourage you to do the right thing and come forward.”

The shooting happened just after 10:15 p.m. Police said Gedi was making a left-hand turn, and he “intersected” with the suspect. Police said there was no “obvious altercation” between Gedi and the suspect. Witnesses told police that they saw the suspect, who was on foot, fire several shots into the vehicle.

Gedi was taken to the hospital where he died.

The suspect was last seen headed eastbound on 236th Street.

If anyone knows where the suspect is located, they should not approach the suspect and should call 911. Anyone with information about the incident can email policetips@edmondswa.gov.
