FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Federal Way Police say there are still no suspects in three separate murder cases.

During a ride-along Thursday, Commander Brett Hatfield said he is in charge of a Gun Violence Emphasis Operation for the Federal Way Police Department.

“Random homicides like this in rapid succession is something I have never seen before,” said Cmdr. Hatfield. “It is very concerning.”

Last week, there were three homicides within 48 hours. The first happened Monday, May 9th, around one o’clock in the morning. Alex Kelley was smoking a cigarette, standing on a porch at an apartment complex when he was shot and killed. Just after midnight the next day, Frank Cohen was shot and killed near a park. Eleven hours later, police were at a new crime scene.

“Adam Gutierrez was merely walking his dog down Southwest 356th when he was shot and killed,” said Cmdr. Hatfield.

Gutierrez, a Navy Veteran, was married. By all accounts, he was an innocent victim. Community members donated a $17,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the Adam Gutierrez case. You can leave an anonymous tip with Crimestoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.

More police patrols are being rolled out every night for a special police emphasis that allows a team of officers to focus solely on following up on leads in the three cases.

Commander Hatfield says they have collected some surveillance video, but they are interested in seeing more. Police ask anyone with information about the three cases to come forward. You can also leave an anonymous tip at www.safecityfw.com
