SEATTLE - Seattle police are looking for a man who broke into a home and sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl at gunpoint in Seattle's Rainier Beach neighborhood.
According to police, the girl's family called 911 around 6 a.m. Monday to report a man had entered their home near 53rd Avenue S and South Wabash St., sexually assaulted their daughter at gunpoint, then fled the house.
The girl's brother said the incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. The girl's family was sleeping downstairs and did not hear anything.
Right when she woke up, she found some man trying to open a window. He basically had the gun on her. She can't talk - he tells her don't talk or I'll shoot you, said the victim's brother.
After the attack, the man stole a pair of shoes and fled the home. At that point, the girl told her family what happened and they called 911.
Police searched the neighborhood and interviewed the neighbors but were unable to find the suspect.
It is frustrating that they don't know where this person is or who he is, said neighbor Amber Berman-Ortiz.
Neighbor Donna Flake said, my heart goes out to the family and to that little girl who is going to be traumatized and scarred for life. I am scared for my own because the kids like to play out here all day everyday.
Investigators believe the suspect is a black male, 30 to 40 years old, possibly with mutton chop sideburns. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and black shorts.
Police were working with child specialists to interview the victim and gather a thorough description of the suspect. Meanwhile, police are reminding residents to lock their doors and secure their windows.
