GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, Wash. — A man wanted out of Pierce County for attempted murder is in custody in Grays Harbor County after a pursuit and struggle with officers Thursday.
The Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office said a deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle on Powell Road near Hoquiam. The deputy tried to contact the man inside, but he refused to identify himself. The deputy checked the vehicle's registration and found the car was registered to a 32-year-old Spanaway man wanted out of Pierce County for suspected attempted murder, assault and burglary.
The deputy determined the man in the vehicle was the registered owner. When the deputy went to arrest him, the suspect sped off in the vehicle toward state Route 109.
The suspect was later spotted driving south on SR 109, and he led deputies on a pursuit when they tried to stop the vehicle.
Deputies used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver on the vehicle eventually, causing it to spin and come to a stop. Deputies pinned the vehicle, and the suspect was taken into custody after a struggle. He was booked into jail on his outstanding warrants and could face additional charges for eluding police and resisting arrest.
A patrol vehicle was damaged, and a deputy suffered a cut to the hand while attempting to take the suspect into custody.
