SEATTLE — The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board discovered illegal THC and other unidentifiable items in a Seattle tobacco shop.
According to the LCB, the investigation started as a complaint about the store, Trichome, in the Chinatown International District.
The LCB says most of their investigations come from complaints.
Investigators with the LCB found much more than what's allowed in Trichome's cigarette, tobacco and vapor license.
"We got another search warrant, we went back, we seized a bunch of products there. Those products are now being tested at the state crime lab," said Julie Graham with the LCB.
Officers found refrigerators locked with a cable and in them were fentanyl strips, a scale and baggies. They are products Graham said are commonly used for drug trafficking.
"We found a lot of things that we don't know what they are. We found little bottles of liquid, little substances that were wrapped up. We found things that look like a mold that you pour a liquid in to make a product," said Graham.
That's not all, there were many products with THC and other items that are unidentifiable like chocolate products, chex-style mix and mushrooms.
"If those do turn out to be controlled substances as they appear to be, we will recommend criminal charges to the appropriate law enforcement agency," said Graham.
While officers were at the store, the owner called and withdrew their license voluntarily. "However we were already onsite, already had the search warrant and are proceeding," said Graham.
Graham said it would be a serious issue if they determined this business was selling or intending to sell THC products without a license.
"We want to make sure that if people choose to use cannabis, they're doing so with a product that they know is safe, they know how much they're getting, what strength, what quality, all of that," she said. "That's important to us."
The shop was open Friday and KING 5 talked with an employee who said he would give our information to the owner. We have yet to receive any statement or contact from them. Criminal charges will be dependent on what the lab results find.
