KENT, Wash. — The teen arrested in connection to a carjacking and school lockdown may not be the correct suspect.
The King County Prosecutor's Office said the victim of the carjacking did not identify the teen who had been arrested as the person involved in the carjacking. The victim said the person involved was wearing different clothes and an earring.
This comes after a carjacking on Thursday, Sept. 5 that lead to the lockdown of Kentridge High School. Police say they got a call from a man who said he was carjacked at gunpoint while attempting to sell his vehicle.
The alleged carjacker then drove into the parking lot of Kentridge High School and entered the building, which was subsequently placed into lockedown.
Police who entered the building arrested an unarmed teenager.
The teen made his first court appearance on Friday and was released to his grandmother.
Following the negative identification by the carjacking victim, the court only found probable cause for a charge of driving with no valid driver's license.
The Kent Police Department's investigation into the robbery is ongoing and the prosecutor's office will decide on future charges if or when there is additional information.
