KENT, Wash. — A Kent woman is in custody on suspicion of killing her daughter earlier this week.
The Kent Police Department (KPD) said officers were dispatched to an apartment on West Smith Street on Sunday after a domestic violence assault was reported, the department said in a release. Firefighters were already on sight treating a 28-year-old woman, but police were called after first responders were advised the injuries were caused by a family member, KPD said.
Officers at the scene determined that the victim's 58-year-old mother assaulted her, causing "significant injuries." The victim was stabilized at the residence after her condition "deteriorated rapidly," police said. She was transported to a local hospital, but eventually died from her injuries on Monday, police said.
The victim's mother was arrested and booked into the King County Jail during the initial police response. Kent police detectives were later called in, and the woman's death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
