KENT, Wash. — After one person was found injured and hostage negotiations occurred, police found a woman dead inside a Kent home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Kent Police Department.
Kent police and Valley SWAT remained at the scene for several hours in response to a "critical incident," according to the Kent Police Department on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Puget Sound Fire Public Information Officer Pat Pawlak said first responders were originally dispatched for a reported shooting near 272nd Place and 116th Place SE in Kent around noon.
According to KPD, the initial 911 call was made by the victim's son. He told police his father, a 54-year-old man, is the landlord of the 47-year-old woman who shot him.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Megan Judkin and ruled her death a suicide.
When officers were responding, they found the man down in front of the house. Pawlak said the man was injured in the shooting and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to a Seattle-area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The man is in satisfactory condition and is not longer in the ICU, according to Harborview Medical Center.
First responders heard another gunshot when they arrived, which prompted an upgraded call and larger police response in the area, said Jarod Kasner, assistant police chief for the Kent Police Department.
Details on what led up to the shooting are still unknown.
