21-year-old Lacey man arrested in double homicide investigation was stationed at JBLM

According to a statement of probable cause, the suspect shot his pregnant wife and her "best friend/boyfriend."

LACEY, Wash. — A 21-year-old Lacey man has been arrested in a double homicide investigation after leading police in a car chase on Interstate 5 on June 20.

The man was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, officials confirmed.

Lacey police officers were called to a home in the 5400 block of 57th Loop Southeast around 9 p.m. on Thursday night for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two people dead inside a home.

According to a statement of probable cause, the suspect shot his pregnant wife and her "best friend/boyfriend." Both of them died at the scene.

A witness who lives at the home told police the suspect and his wife fight frequently. Earlier in the day, the witness said she saw the suspect leaving his wife's bedroom with her phone. A few hours later, she heard the suspect and his wife arguing.

A few hours later, the witness said she heard two gunshots and someone say, "Oh, the gun went off." She saw someone move past her door and then heard three more gunshots.

Another witness, who also lives at the home, said the suspect walked downstairs with a gun in his hand and pointed it at him.

The suspect then left the house.

The suspect was later spotted in a vehicle driving north on Interstate 5 by the Olympia Police Department. Police initiated a chase.

The suspect drove at speeds exceeding 100 mph, according to a statement of probable cause.

The suspect took exit 114 and entered the Billy Frank Jr. Wildlife Refuge. He fled on foot.

The Washington State Patrol helicopter and Thurston County SWAT responded to help find the suspect and take him into custody.

At the Lacey Police Department, the suspect said he has an "alter ego" who took over and he couldn't remember what happened. He said he remembered being home at some point but didn't know anything about the shooting. He recalled telling an officer a gun was in his vehicle's glovebox, but .he didn't own a gun.

A loaded gun was found in the vehicle.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence murder and first-degree domestic violence assault.
