PARKLAND, Wash. — A man is in custody after Pierce County deputies said he killed his roommate hours before assaulting his father in front of law enforcement conducting a welfare check.
The 47-year-old suspect had Child Protective Services show up to perform a welfare check on his 6-year-old daughter, but the man did not answer the door, according to a release from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department (PCSD).
Deputies went to the home on Monday with the suspect's father, who was locked out of the home for several days according to the PCSD. The suspect allegedly assaulted his father in front of the deputies when they arrived. Officials said he was taken into custody on suspicion of assault and resisting arrest.
When deputies interviewed the suspect's daughter, she told investigators her father strangled his friend. Deputies said the daughter's statements did not give them enough probable cause to search a trailer connected to the home, so they left the area with the suspect.
Two days later, the suspect's father went to check on the roommate in the trailer and found him dead, according to the PCSD. Investigators did not release the victim's cause of death.
The suspect, who was in custody at the Pierce County Jail, is also accused of murder.
