Man suspected of previous eluding incidents runs red light, crashes in Belltown

The man, in his 50s or 60s, surrendered to Seattle police in the city's Belltown neighborhood.

SEATTLE — A man suspected of previously eluding police was arrested Thursday after driving through a red light, losing control and crashing into other vehicles.

The man, in his 50s or 60s, surrendered to Seattle police in the city's Belltown neighborhood.

KING 5 is not naming the suspect because he has not been charged.

Around 10:40 a.m., a Seattle police cruiser equipped with a license plate reader spotted a vehicle connected to a call of eluding police in Auburn and two eluding incidents in Seattle.

Officers found the man sleeping in the vehicle. They deployed a "Terminator" device under the vehicle's back tires.

When the man woke up, he drove over the device, which flattened both rear tires, according to information from Seattle police. The man then drove through a red light and lost control, hitting other vehicles, a wall, and a light pole.

Seattle police officers pinned the vehicle in. The man allegedly hit and damaged a patrol vehicle at that time.

The man then surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

During the investigation, southbound Fifth Avenue was blocked, as well as eastbound traffic and northbound traffic along Fourth Avenue, according to Seattle police.

An approximately 39-year-old man involved in the crash was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The suspect complained of chest pain, but medics determined he was OK.

He was arrested for two counts of eluding a police vehicle, DUI, reckless driving.
