SEATTLE — A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting at a West Seattle gas station earlier this month.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced the arrest Monday morning, almost a week after it released images of man they said was involved in the homicide. Oton Garcia-Ruiz, 53, was shot around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 while he was inside his car at Shree's Truck Stop on Detroit Avenue Southwest.
A vigil for Garcia-Ruiz was held on Oct. 23 at the gas station, where loved ones including the man's fiancee gathered to remember him.
"We were very happy together. We used to enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset," said Maria Cervantes, as translated by a victim advocate employed by the city. "He was a great partner."
"I'm speaking up now because I want justice for him," Cervantes told KING 5. "God welcomed him into heaven and he's looking over us and watching over us. We miss him very much."
SPD previously said a suspect had "fired into the crowded gas station with disregard to any of the patrons."
Police did not release the name of the man that was arrested, and KING 5 does not typically name suspects in criminal cases until they have been charged.
KING 5's Jim Nelson contributed to this report.
