AUBURN, Wash. — A man pleaded not guilty to murder Wednesday after a woman was found shot to death in Auburn on Valentine's Day.
The suspect, 32-year-old Calvin Jackson, is facing a first-degree murder charge. He pleaded not guilty in King County court Wednesday and remains in custody on a $5 million bond.
The Auburn Police Department found a 34-year-old woman dead from a gunshot wound in the bushes on Feb. 14in the 3700 Block of West Valley Highway North.
Detectives determined the victim's boyfriend, Jackson, was the suspect after reviewing surveillance video and interviewing multiple people.
Court documents reveal Jackson told investigators he was waiting in the victim's vehicle to ambush her, then shot her multiple times and dumped her body.
The documents said Jackson initially told authorities he did not know the victim's whereabouts when asked and "continued this ruse, through the death notification after they found her and into the next day."
Jackson told investigators he was angry because the victim had asked him for months to move out and because she started a new romantic relationship.
The victim leaves behind two sons ages nine and 10.
