SEATTLE — A man is in custody after allegedly ramming seven vehicles, including three Seattle police cruisers, while allegedly attempting to escape officers after falling asleep at the wheel in a parking lot.
Officers were called to the parking lot of an apartment complex on Sandpoint Way Northeast around 8 a.m. Tuesday after reports of a man unconscious and slumped over inside a vehicle for "at least 35 minutes."
When police arrived, they said officers positioned themselves so the suspect could not escape and pose "a danger to the public." Police then used loud PA announcements, sirens and knocking on the driver's side window to wake the man, according to a blotter post.
When the man finally woke up, police said he started the vehicle and began to ram and try to push patrol vehicles out of the way to escape. In total, the man struck three unoccupied police vehicles and four other unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot. When the car was disabled after striking all the vehicles, the suspect refused to get out of the car, police said.
A 30-minute negotiation ensued between police and the suspect, according to the post. Eventually, the man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of felony malicious mischief.
Upon investigation of the man's vehicle, a suspected meth pipe along with what appeared to be meth was recovered.
