WHIDBEY ISLAND STATION, Wash. — A man was booked into Island County Jail for allegedly shooting a delivery driver then stealing his truck on Whidbey Island early Wednesday morning.
According to the Island County Sheriff's Office, around 6 a.m., a man confronted the delivery driver when he was pulled off to the side of the road near State route 20 and Cornet Bay Road, near Deception Pass State Park. The suspect shot the victim and then stole his truck and headed south.
Authorities then received a 911 call from someone saying they were taking a victim with a gunshot wound to a nearby hospital. The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect.
ICSO deputies responded to the scene and found the delivery truck off the road near Monkey Hill Road. It was still running and the door was open. Shortly after, they received another 911 call about a man, matching the suspect's description, attempting to steal a bike from the caller's property. The caller also told deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers the man was taking off his clothes in the process.
Officials found the suspect and arrested him without incident. He was taken to Whidbey Health Hospital for an evaluation then booked into Island County Jail.
