Missing Auburn woman believed to have been taken 'under duress,' police say

Jackelin Perez, 21, recently moved to Auburn from Guatemala. Police do not believe her disappearance was "random."

AUBURN, Wash — Auburn police are searching for a missing woman who may have been kidnapped.

Investigators are looking into the "suspicious disappearance" of 21-year-old Jackelin Perez. She went missing on the evening of Oct. 13. She recently moved to Auburn from Guatemala with her husband, speaks limited English and is six weeks pregnant.

Police said there is credible evidence that Perez was "taken from her home under duress," and they do not believe this to be a random incident.

Investigators said Perez' husband did not contact them about her disappearance until the morning after she went missing.

"We do believe that he got home because of our investigation about 20 minutes or so after the kidnapping happened," said Kolby Crossley, Auburn Police Department spokesperson. "But we haven't ruled him out of a suspect yet, we haven't ruled out anyone as a suspect. So we're not necessarily saying he is, but we're also not necessarily saying he's not. So that's part of our investigation, that's something we're looking into."

The Auburn Police Department is asking the public to assist in their search for Perez. She has brown hair and brown eyes, stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall and is 111 pounds. She has a scar on her left cheek.

Anyone with information about Perez' whereabouts is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department tip line at 253-288-7403.

"Stay strong, stay tough and we're looking for you and we're doing everything we can to make sure we bring you home safely," Crossley said.
