BEAVERTON, Ore. — The man accused of murdering a Beaverton nurse appeared in a Washington County courtroom on Monday. 27-year-old Bryce Schubert was arrested on Sept. 6 and charged with murdering 32-year-old Melissa Jubane. Schubert is facing charges of murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse.
In a preliminary court proceeding on Monday to determine if there is enough evidence to try Schubert, he pleaded not guilty via video. Schubert is expected to be back in court on Oct. 15.
New court documents revealed that Melissa Jubane is believed to be intentionally killed on or about Sept. 4 by Schubert in Washington County. She is believed to have been kidnapped and was taken from one place to another by Schubert with the intention to cause physical harm to Jubane, according to court documents obtained by KGW.
Schubert is also believed to have caused intentional harm and abuse to Jubane's body after killing her.
Schubert is facing murder in the first degree, kidnapping in the first-degree and abuse of a corpse in the second-degree. He is not granted any bail due to the nature of the charges he's facing, according to the court documents.
Jubane was reported missing the morning of Sept. 4, after she failed to show up for work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center where she worked as a nurse.
Her disappearance set off searches by friends and family, as well as a police investigation. Friends told KGW that Jubane had just gotten married.
During that investigation, Beaverton police said they determined that one of Jubane’s neighbors, Schubert, was involved in her disappearance. Both living at an apartment complex in Beaverton, off Southwest 160th Avenue and Baseline Road.
Providence said Schubert has not been employed at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center but briefly was employed as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023.
At the time, Beaverton police said in a news release that they found Jubane’s remains and arrested Schubert on a charge of second-degree murder. They declined to release any additional details regarding what happened leading up to Jubane’s death or the location Jubane's remains were found.
