Neighbors remain fearful despite arson arrest

Roger Faleafine was arrested Monday after a manhunt that lasted several days. His bail was set at $350,000 in an arraignment Tuesday.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- The man accused of torching an apartment building in Lakewood earlier this month was arraigned on Tuesday.

Roger Faleafine was arrested Monday after a manhunt that lasted several days. Despite the arrest and arraignment, neighbors said they're still scared the violence isn't over.

The fire started just after 7:00 a.m. on Sept. 5. Investigators said Faleafine set the stairwell on fire, meant as retaliation to someone living in one of the units, but the fire spread through multiple homes, forcing a 60-year old woman to jump and displacing at least four other units.

"Innocent people have to get hurt because some dummy can't handle his business," said neighbor Brian Gateley. "There's no reason for people to get involved. Poor lady was just up there sleeping."

Police also arrested and charged Alicia Stephens for arson. Police said she is believed to have bought the accelerant used in the fire and knew about the arson.

Faleafine pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at $350,000, despite his request for a $50,000.

The woman who had to jump from her unit is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center.
