Driver strikes and kills elderly woman in Kent, then flees the scene, police say

Callers reported that a woman had been struck by a car and she was laying in the street.

KENT, Wash. — Kent police are searching for a suspect who struck and killed an elderly woman who was walking in the road on Sunday evening.

Kent police officers and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of South Central Avenue at around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday after several 911 callers reported a serious accident.

Callers reported that a woman had been struck by a car and she was laying in the street. She appeared to be dead, callers reported.

When officers and fire personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim, identified as an 84-year-old Auburn woman, had died from her injuries. At least one witness said they saw the woman walking in the northbound lanes of the street just before the accident took place.

Another witness saw a smaller red sedan hit the woman head on, then speed away without stopping. Witnesses were not able to see the suspect or get a look at the license plate of the vehicle.

The Kent Traffic Unit is investigating the woman's death. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Kent Police Department or call 911. Tips can also be left at KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or people can call 253-856-5808 and reference Kent police case number 24-1671.
