TACOMA, Wash. — An hours-long standoff as officers attempted to serve a search warrant in Tacoma ended without any bloodshed but did lead to the seizure of pounds of meth and multiple stolen firearms along with a live grenade.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said Pierce County and Tacoma SWAT units were serving a search warrant on behalf of the Snohomish County Regional Drug Task Force just after 6 a.m. on March 6. Upon arrival of the units, SCSO said multiple people were removed from the residence.
However, a suspect put on a ballistic vest and gas mask and barricaded himself in a crawl space, SCSO said. After a "multi-hour" standoff, the suspect was located armed with a handgun and hiding under the residence in a crawl space. SCSO said he eventually surrendered without incident and was booked into Pierce County Jail.
Tacoma police arrested a second person at the residence on an unrelated charge.
Detectives were finally able to serve the search warrant and recovered a litany of illegal items, including over four pounds of methamphetamine (66 ounces), 36 grams of counterfeit fentanyl-laced pills, 106.6 grams of fentanyl powder and three stolen guns among six total. Body armor and a live hand grenade were also seized at the residence, SCSO said.
