Puyallup police investigating homicide after woman dies from shooting

The 22-year-old woman had a gunshot wound to her head, according to police.

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Police are investigating a homicide after a woman died from her injuries on Sunday night. 

The Puyallup Police Department was called to the 1500 block of 10th Avenue Northwest for reports of gunshots just before 9 p.m. Officers found shell cartridges in the street but did not find any victims from a shooting. 

About 10 minutes later, police said a 22-year-old woman from Kingston, Washington was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma with a gunshot wound to her head. She died at the hospital, police said.

Detectives determined the woman was a passenger in a black SUV at the time of the shooting. According to investigators, the people inside the SUV had a confrontation with several people along the 1500 block of 10th Avenue Northwest when shots were fired into the SUV, striking the woman.

Puyallup police asked residents in the area to check any surveillance cameras between 8-9 p.m. on Sunday or call the tip line at 253-770-3343 if they have any information on the shooting.
