Police investigating reported rape at Bellevue College say no ongoing threat to community

The rape was reported to police around 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Bellevue College closed its campus Tuesday while police investigated a reported rape in a bathroom of one of its buildings.

The rape was reported to police around 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Bellevue Police Department. A woman said she was raped at knifepoint in the bathroom at the college. She was taken to the hospital with injuries, according to police.

Police are actively investigating and looking at surveillance footage from the L Building at Bellevue College, where the attack took place.

Students received an alert about the incident with information that the school would be closed the rest of the day.

"When I got that notification on my phone, I was just in disbelief and I didn't know how to react to it," one student said.

Around noon on Tuesday, police said they were still working with the woman to "reconcile inconsistencies between the information she is reporting and the evidence found at the scene."

Though police initially warned of a suspect possibly armed with a knife, they later said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the school or community.
