Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound and an anonymous donor are now offering $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the murder of a Kitsap family of four.
Just before 11:30 pm on the night of January 27, 2017, a 911 call was placed to Kitsap County dispatch. The call led sheriff deputies to a private residence in Seabeck, Washington.
When first responders arrived, they found the residence on fire with three bodies inside. The victims in the home were 16-year-old Hunter Schaap, 16-year-old Johnathon Higgins, and his mother, 37-year-old Christale Careaga.
The following Sunday, Investigators came across a burnt out pickup truck with a body inside.on a tree farm in Mason County. Detectives said the victim was John Careaga, 43.
Detectives have sought leads in the case since last year. In June, detectives announced that surveillance images generated a possible person of interest. In September a man was arrested for assault that had been under investigation for the homicide. That man was not ultimately charged with the murders.
Detectives are hoping the new reward will generate leads.
