TACOMA, Wash. — A month after a violent and random attack at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma police are still searching for the suspect.
A sketch of the suspect has been circulating for weeks. Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 on a park trail, a man repeatedly stabbed a woman.
Last month the victim came forward.
"I was one wrong move from being killed. I was completely alone, and I still can't believe I survived,” said the woman police are referring to as “Jane” to protect her privacy. Jane said she was walked in the park when a man came up behind her and began stabbing her over and over again.
"I begged him to let me go, that I could give him money, that I could give him anything he wanted if I could live. That is when he made it verbally explicit that his intent was to kill me,” said Jane.
She said she was fighting back and screaming when witnesses stepped in to help.
"The woman who came to my rescue and kicked the man in the head saw he had a knife, knew it was risky, and still intervened. Later she told me she would kick 100 guys in the head to save my life,” said Jane.
Jane was left with 120 staples in her skull, neck, and upper back.
A month later, police said they are still looking for leads.
"We are happy to receive every single tip because we never know when that one small bit of information is going to just bring that whole puzzle piece together,” said Officer Shelbie Boyd.
Officer Boyd added that police have received some tips from the public, and each one is investigated fully.
There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and charges filed against the suspect in this incident. Anyone who recognizes the suspect in the sketch is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Pierce County at tpcrimestoppers.com, call 1-800-222-8477, or use the P3 tips app. Anyone who encounters the person depicted in the sketch is asked to call 911.
