Metro bus driver stabbed, killed near UW campus

Police are still looking for the suspect.

SEATTLE — A metro bus driver was stabbed and killed near Seattle's University of Washington campus early Wednesday morning, police have confirmed.

Police said there was a physical altercation that eventually led to a stabbing just before 3 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Northeast 41st Street and 15th Avenue Northeast.

Seattle fire officials arrived on the scene and provided aid, but the bus driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Seattle police spokesperson said it was a King County Metro bus equipped with surveillance cameras and officers are actively reviewing that footage as part of the investigation.

A UW Alert sent out shortly after the stabbing described the suspect as a 6-foot-1 man wearing a blue jacket. The alert said the suspect "reportedly fled northbound through an alley."

At 3:49 a.m., police said they were looking for the suspect in the area of 50th Street and 15th Avenue Northeast.

This is a developing story.
