SEATTLE — The 37-year-old man accused of stabbing five people in Seattle's Chinatown-International District on Nov. 8 was charged Thursday.
Roland Jerome Lee faces four counts of first-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault. He remains in King County Jail on $2 million bail.
The stabbing spree that sent shockwaves through the community sent four men to the ICU at Harborview Medical Center - a fifth was treated at the scene and released. Since the stabbings, three were discharged and a fourth remains at Harborview and is expected to survive.
“The residents, business workers, and visitors of the Chinatown-International District deserve to be safe and feel safe,” King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said Thursday. “I am grateful for the Seattle Police Department’s work on this case.”
On the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 8, police officers responded to the intersection of 10th Avenue South and South Jackson Street for reports of five people being stabbed. The suspect, later identified as Lee, can be seen stabbing the final victim in the back before being arrested nearby, according to charging documents.
Two of the victims were stabbed multiple times in the back, while another was stabbed in the neck.
Officers found a total of three knives, two Lee allegedly tried to hide in a parking lot and a third that was still lodged in the back of one of the victims, according to charging documents.
Additional stabbings were reported between the early morning hours of Nov. 7 and Nov. 8. Those stabbings remain under investigation. In total, 10 people - one woman and nine men - were stabbed in the Chinatown-International District over two days.
Lee will enter a plea Nov. 27 when he is arraigned.
