SEATTLE — A woman is recovering in the hospital after being shot during an alleged early-morning robbery in Seattle.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) said officers responded just after 4 a.m. to reports of a shooting on 12th Avenue South.
A woman with a gunshot wound was found and transported to Harborview Medical Center in "stable condition," SPD said.
Officers at the scene learned that the woman was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown man approached her on a bike. The woman said the man asked for a cigarette, then grabbed at her purse. The two apparently struggled over the purse until the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the woman, SPD said.
The suspect was last seen running south on 12th Avenue over the Jose Rizal Bridge. After a search of the area, officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call SPD's violent crimes tip line at (206) 233-5000.
