One person has life-threatening injuries after shooting near Evergreen High School

A shooter has not been identified following the shooting Monday afternoon.

WHITE CENTER, Wash. — One person has life-threatening injuries after a shooting was reported near Evergreen High School in White Center Monday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. Crews from King County Fire District No. 2 were the first to arrive and found one person with injuries on SW 114th Street. They moved the injured person to a more remote location for further treatment.

A shooter had not been identified.

The shooting did not occur on school grounds, according to information from the Highline School District. However, Evergreen High School and Cascade Middle School were locked down. Mount View Elementary was on modified lockdown as a precaution. All lockdowns have been lifted. The incident caused buses to run late for afternoon drop offs due to dismissal delays.

Law enforcement blocked off a wide perimeter for hours as they investigated.

"It's an every day thing you hear. You hear gunshots around here all the time," said Maurice Nunez, who lives nearby.

Nunez said neighbors and parents were searching for answers. So far, the King County Sheriff's Office says it's unclear what led up to the shooting and could not confirm if any students were involved.

"It's concerning because you have kids walking around all the time. My girlfriend walks around all the time with the dogs. It's concerning," Nunez said.
