1 dead, 2 injured in shooting at Sumner house party

Two 16-year-old males were arrested after the early-morning shooting on Sept. 14.

SUMNER, Wash — One person is dead and two other people are being treated for injuries sustained during a shooting at a house party in Sumner overnight.

Two 16-year-old males have been booked into juvenile detention.

Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, Pierce County deputies responded to a 911 call from a home in the 7400 block of Riverside Drive East. Deputies, along with Bonney Lake and Puyallup police officers, responded.

As law enforcement arrived, a vehicle leaving the scene rammed into a Bonney Lake police cruiser and attempted to flee. The officer was able to trap the vehicle by pushing it into another parked car.

The two 16-year-olds were detained and later booked into Remann Hall. A handgun was spotted in the vehicle, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

At the scene, law enforcement found a "severely injured" adult victim in the driveway. They applied a chest seal and took him to the hospital, where he later died.

Two other victims, both 16-year-old males, were injured and taken to local hospitals.

Detectives learned the homeowner's child threw a party. During the party, one of the victims was kicked out after a fight. According to the sheriff's department, the victim returned, possibly with the other two victims, prior to the shooting.

The driver of the vehicle that was attempting to flee was booked for second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. His passenger was booked for unlawful possession of a firearm.
