Man accused of breaking into home near Bothell and sexually assaulting 11-year-old arrested

According to law enforcement, the suspect and victim do not know each other. The attack was random.

BOTHELL, Wash. — The man accused of breaking into a home near Bothell and assaulting a child was arrested Monday.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), a 23-year-old man was arrested in Snohomish. The SCSO confirmed the suspect and the victim do not know each other and the attack was random.

Detectives were told an unknown male entered a residence just outside of Bothell during the early morning hours Friday and entered the bedroom of an 11-year-old child. The man woke the child up and sexually assaulted them.

The suspect fled the scene after a second child at the home woke up. It is unclear how long the man was inside the apartment. Detectives believe the suspect got into the house through the front door, which was unlocked.

Courtney O'Keefe with the SCSO told KING 5 Friday that the incident was "very scary for our community" and stressed that random sexual assaults are not common.

The man has not yet been charged but is expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail on first-degree burglary and second-degree child molestation charges.

In the announcement of the suspect's arrest Monday, the SCSO thanked staff at the Bailey Farm Apartment Complex for "their assistance and cooperation, which led to a quick identification of the suspect."

The investigation is still active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office tip line at 425-388-3845.
