Arrest made in case of woman who was shot, killed in Lakewood

Leslie Crossley was shot and killed while riding as a passenger on the evening of Jan. 22.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Lakewood police arrested a man suspected of shooting and killing 35-year-old Leslie Crossley in January.

The man was taken into custody on outstanding warrants related to the shooting and booked into Pierce County Jail on Tuesday, Feb. 20. He could face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

KING 5 is not naming the man because he has not been officially charged.

On Jan. 22, Lakewood officers were dispatched after multiple people reported shots fired in the 5100 block of Chicago Avenue Southwest. At the same time, a woman called 911 and said she was driving down Pacific Highway and her passenger had been shot. The woman pulled over outside the hotel to meet first responders.

Police responded to both locations.

Officers arriving at the Holiday Inn Express in the 11700 block of Pacific Highway Southwest found the vehicle with Crossley in the passenger seat suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics attempted life-saving measures but she died from her injuries. The driver was uninjured.

Officers who arrived at the Chicago Avenue location found multiple shell casings in the roadway. Police confirmed Crossley was shot at that location.

Lakewood Major Crimes Detectives began investigating.

On Feb. 20 around 5 a.m., the Lakewood Special Response Team executed the warrant in the 1400 block of 116th Street South in Parkland, where the man suspected of the shooting was taken into custody.

Police have not released information on a potential motive for the shooting. However, they said at the time they did not believe the shooting was completely random.

Crossley is survived by her 15-year-old son.
