PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is investigating after a sheriff's deputy shot a suspect Tuesday night.
Just after 9 p.m., Pierce County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a report of a person in a pickup truck driving on Canyon Road in Frederickson firing a rifle out his window.
Deputies located the suspect in the Crystal Pointe neighborhood near 192nd Street East and 82nd Avenue East before the suspect reportedly fired shots at authorities.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said the suspect was injured and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was released from the hospital and booked into the Pierce County Jail Wednesday morning.
No deputies were injured in the shooting.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team was called to the scene per department policy.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said this is the fourth shooting in the past five weeks where a deputy fired shots. They said it is also the fifth incident where suspects or deputies fired shots in the past five weeks.
The incidents include:
- Nov. 17, SWAT Team officer-involved shooting in Bremerton
- Nov. 28, officer-involved shooting with a wanted suspect in Puyallup
- Dec. 5, shooting suspect shot at deputies in Parkland
- Dec. 12, officer-involved shooting where two deputies were struck by gunfire in Tacoma
- Dec. 19, officer-involved shooting in Puyallup
