Suspected DUI driver arrested after pursuit in Clallam County

The 40-year-old suspect's passenger tossed meth and drug paraphernalia out the window during the pursuit, Clallam County deputies say.

CLALLAM COUNTY, Wash. — A suspected DUI driver was arrested after a high-speed pursuit in Clallam County, during which meth was tossed out of the suspect's vehicle.

A Clallam County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Old Olympic Highway near Barr Road on Sept. 6 around 10 p.m., per a release. The driver was seen struggling to remain in their lane, and the deputy suspected DUI.

When the deputy activated his overhead lights, the driver fled and headed southbound on Barr Road, where the deputy observed a passenger in the suspect vehicle toss objects out of the car.

The suspect drove to Highway 101 and eventually went east toward Sequim, per the sheriff's office. As the pursuit continued at speeds of up to 85 mph, sheriff's deputies say,  the suspect continued to the 200 block of Lost Mountain Road, where he was apprehended.

Officials from the Washington State Patrol, Sequim police and CCSO arrested the 40-year-old suspect, who was booked into Clallam County Jail on suspicion of felony attempt to elude police, DUI, driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

The items tossed from the vheicle were later recovered by officials, who found drug paraphernalia and a substance later positively identified as methamphetamine.

The passenger in the vehicle was apprehended, questioned and eventually released, CCSO, says.
