Man who forced girl into vehicle in 'attempted kidnapping' sought by Tacoma police

Police say the girl managed to escape when the man "briefly exited the vehicle to enter a store."

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma police are investigating after a man apparently forced a girl into his vehicle and drove her to a store before she managed to escape.

A girl reported around 11 a.m. Sunday that she was forced into a red 4-door Toyota vehicle by an unknown man, the Tacoma Police Department said in a release.

The suspect reportedly followed the girl for several blocks before forcing her into his vehicle in the area of 1700 Pacific Avenue, police say.

Once in the car, the suspect drove her to the 3000 block of 6th Avenue, police say. The girl managed to escape when the suspect "briefly exited the vehicle to enter a store."

Tacoma police shared an image of the suspect and described him as a 5-foot-6, 150-160-pound Hispanic male "approximately in his 50s." Images of the vehicle were also shared by police, and can be seen below.
