PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — An 18-year-old accused of fleeing the scene of a deadly car crash that killed his girlfriend in Roy in November made his first court appearance on Friday.
Nikolas Greinke pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide and failure to remain at the scene of a crash that resulted in a death. He remains in custody. His bail was set at $500,000.
Greinke turned himself in Wednesday night after authorities issued an arrest warrant and were unable to locate him, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said deputies responded to a collision in the 33000 block of 8th Avenue South in Roy on Nov. 30, 2023. Deputies found a pink pickup truck in the ditch. The front passenger, a 16-year-old girl, died at the scene. Court documents revealed the victim was dating the driver of the truck, identified as Greinke.
The sheriff’s department said the truck had been trying to pass traffic at a high rate of speed and collided with another vehicle before losing control and crashing. Witnesses reported Greinke fled the scene following the crash.
