Graham-Kapowsin HS student shot while walking to bus stop

The 16-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A 16-year-old was shot in the leg while walking to a Puyallup bus stop early Tuesday morning.

According to the Bethel Schol District, the teen was a student at Graham-Kapowsin High School. He was shot near 8200 186th St. Court E. just after 7 a.m.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department (PCSD), the victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was allegedly in a vehicle and fled the scene before authorities arrived.

PCSD deputies believe the shooting was targeted.

The Bethel School District sent a letter to families saying it is working closely with PCSD and "thanks them for their quick response." 

"Our thoughts are with the student and their family. Counselors and social workers will be available at GKHS today for students who need support," the district official wrote in a press release.
