KIRKLAND, Wash. — Thefts happening in Kirkland have some people trying to sell their homes concerned.
The crimes are taking place during open houses.
"You trust people to come in your home,” Sarah said. “You think they're shopping for a home. And they're shopping for themselves."
Sarah is trying to sell her home in Kirkland. She did not want to share her last name but did say several sentimental items were stolen out of a drawer in her bedroom closet during an open house at her home on June 22.
She was not home at the time of the theft, but her realtor told her there was a suspicious woman who attended the event last minute.
“In our case, she came five minutes after the open house was supposed to be over, spent a lot of time talking to the realtor, asks for another quick look and that's what she does,” Sarah said.
Police said it is investigating two thefts at open houses in Kirkland. The thefts could be connected to three cases in other jurisdictions according to investigators.
"When I shared it on Facebook groups other realtors chimed in there have been multiple of these things happening in Kirkland,” Sarah said.
Sarah said she won't be having any other open houses. She shared one final message for the thief.
"If you're watching this and see this please bring the stuff back," Sarah said. "If you need money, there's way you can earn money. You don't need to steal from peoples' homes."
There is surveillance video of the suspect from Sarah’s case. But Kirkland police did not confirm more details because the agency said it would jeopardize the case if KING 5 showed it.
