Deadly confrontation over stolen trailer ends in Bonney Lake

The chase ended in a crash at the intersection of Falling Water Boulevard East and Rhodes Lake Road East.

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — Two people are dead and another person may be on the run after a confrontation over a stolen trailer ended in Bonney Lake on Sunday. 

According to preliminary information from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the trailer's owner chased the alleged thieves. The chase ended in a crash at the intersection of Falling Water Boulevard East and Rhodes Lake Road East.

Two people reportedly ran from the vehicles and there was an exchange of gunfire.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found a "severely injured" man in the back seat of a white pickup truck. He died at the hospital.

A second man was found dead next to the pickup. 

Orting and Sumner police found a possible suspect along 193rd Avenue East.

A woman who ran from one of the vehicles was located by Bonney Lake and Sumner police on a trail behind Victor Falls Elementary School, not far from the scene of the crash and shooting.

Deputies are looking for another man who may have run from the scene.

Currently, detectives believe the white truck was hauling the stolen trailer, which was taken from Prairie Ridge. The owner of the trailer chased the white truck. The sheriff's department reports gunfire may have been exchanged during the chase and at the scene of the crash.

The case is under investigation.
