BELLEVUE, Wash. — The victim of a carjacking felt like the Bellevue Bank of America he frequents was a safe place, until two people took his vehicle Thursday evening while his son was still inside.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, just finished depositing checks at the ATM and was walking back to his car when two men approached him and demanded his vehicle.
The man told KING 5 he felt something that could have been a gun pointed at his back before being pushed to the ground.
He said he knew he was in danger and that it all happened very quickly.
"I think he said, give me all you got," he recalled.
The man's 10-year-old son got out of the car just before the suspects drove off.
Police responded around 6:30 p.m. They found the man's vehicle a short distance away.
The suspects fled in a white KIA sedan.
The man said the suspects stole his son's school bag, which had a computer and homework in it.
Less than an hour later, the same two suspects entered an Arco gas station. One suspect pointed a pistol at the clerk and demanded money, according to the Bellevue Police Department. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money and items from the store.
They fled in the same KIA.
Bellevue police are investigating both incidents.
Meanwhile, the victim of the carjacking said his son was shocked by the incident at first, but a few hours later was doing OK.
He said he may think about skipping the trip to the ATM and do more remote deposits from now on.
There have been seven reported carjackings in Bellevue this year, according to information from Bellevue police. There were 10 in 2022 and nine in 2021.
