SEATTLE — A burglar is in custody after police said he broke into a home and fought with the homeowners in West Seattle, who used a frying pan to initially repel the suspect before he was arrested.
The Seattle Police Department said officers were called to the scene at a home on 48th Avenue Southwest early on the morning of March 10 to find a large window broken and the suspected burglar being held down by one of the homeowners with the help of a neighbor.
The homeowner told police he heard glass breaking downstairs and saw a man he did not know was inside his home. When confronted, the suspect fought with the man and was "forced outside." However, the man said the suspect eventually found his way back inside and fought with the man's spouse, who used a frying pan to get him to leave, police said.
The suspect then is said to have gotten into the home for the third time and gotten to the second floor before he was held down by the homeowner with help from a neighbor.
The suspect was medically evaluated at Harborview Medical Center before being booked into King County Jail. Ethan McConaghy, 29, is charged with residential burglary in a King County District Court.
The Seattle Fire Department confirmed to KING 5 that three people were treated at the scene: two women ages 50 and 66 who were in stable condition, and an "approximately" 30-year-old man who had minor injuries. None of them required transportation to a hospital.
