NORMANDY PARK, Wash. — A woman was assaulted at gunpoint while walking her dog in Normandy Park on Monday evening.
According to the Normandy Park Police Department, a 28-year-old woman was stopped near the intersection of SW 170th Street and 16th Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Police say she was forced into the suspect's car at gunpoint and driven a short distance away, where she was sexually assaulted and then released.
The man, believed to be in his early to mid-30s and approximately 5.5 feet tall, was driving a blue or dark-colored sedan with silver or aluminum wheels.
“I think everyone who hears will be shocked. That’s really surprising and really scary that something so violent would happen while someone was walking at a normal time of day,” said Robin Thomazic who lives in the neighborhood and walks where the assault happened every day.
The intersection where she was stopped is a populated residential area, just over a mile away from the police department.
“I was very surprised to hear that we hadn’t heard anything in the neighborhood and this area is so quiet,” Thomazic said. “I may ask a friend to walk with me or think about what time of day it is when I come out to walk my dog.”
Someone who personally knows the victim is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Police say they have been canvassing the neighborhood for evidence and searching for any security camera footage. In a statement, they said they intend to use all available resources and work with neighboring agencies to find the person responsible.
