PARKLAND, Wash. — The Franklin Pierce School District could cut as many as 60 jobs next year, with half of those being teaching positions.
Thirty jobs are employees either retiring or leaving for a new job, while another 30 are teachers at risk of losing their jobs, according to the school district.
However, it's possible some current teaching positions will be saved through "natural attrition," with that number expected to grow, according to the school district.
The potential cuts come as the district faces a $10 million budget shortfall.
The positions scheduled to be cut are:
- Seven teachers each at Franklin Pierce High School and Washington High School
- Two teachers at GATES High School
- Eight teachers between Ford Middle School and Keithley Middle School
- Eight teachers across the district's elementary schools
- Two certificated support staff
- Two teacher mentors
- Four elementary learning specialists
- A support staff employee at each middle school
- A high school counselor
- An assistant principal position from each high school
- Two executive director positions on the cabinet to the district's executive leadership team
- Two IT positions
- Seven custodial positions
- Three clerical/office staff positions
- One maintenance position
The comprehensive high schools are seeing the most positions eliminated, according to the district. Much of this is due to a schedule change coming that will require fewer staff to offer courses.
The final vote for the budget - and cuts - will go before the school board on Tuesday, June 18.
