SEATTLE -- Firefighters mopped up hot spots from a wildfire that burned more than 1,200 acres and briefly forced the evacuations of as many as 50 homes in a rural section of central Washington.
The blaze in the McConihe Flats area about three miles northwest of Moses Lake was brought under control Sunday evening and evacuated residents were allowed to return home.
Officials say the flames burned a home and two other structures and destroyed several vehicles. No serious injuries were reported, and the fire's cause was being investigated.
Meanwhile, Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Rick Isaacson says another fire burned Sunday around Crescent Bar in southern Douglas County near the Grant County line.
He says the blaze was causing extremely smoky conditions and Crescent Bar residents were asked to remain inside their homes as firefighters worked to put it out.
