YAKIMA, Wash. -- A gas mix-up at a Fred Meyer store in Yakima left a lot of cars not working and a lot of people pointing fingers.

Thursday evening people who pumped unleaded gas into their car at the store actually pumped diesel fuel into their cars.

Store director Ryan Cheney says between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday one of their gas suppliers accidentally put unleaded fuel where the diesel fuels goes and visa-versa.

Cheney says approximately 100 people pumped gas at their station during that time.  Anyone who pumped gas before 4:30 p.m. was not affected, and after 6 p.m. the pumps were corrected.

Fred Meyer is now doing their best to help out those who were involved in the mix-up.

"If there is any problems, if anybody got fuel during that time, we want them to come into our store or call us and we are forwarding the information to our insurance company right away," said Cheney. "Even though it wasn't Fred Meyer's fault, we want to make sure that the customers are taken care of."

Cheney says this is the first time anything like this has ever happened to them and that their insurance company, along with their gas vendor, are working with local garages and towing companies to help take care of customers so they don't have to pay money out of their pockets or even get reimbursed.

At this point Fred Meyer was not releasing the name of the supplier responsible for the mix-up.
