After a bad fall down a flight of stairs, Steve Stoner ended up in the hospital for five months with a traumatic brain injury.
He had to relearn how to breathe, talk and walk. As part of his recovery, he and his wife Yvonne have been doing yoga at home and at his rehabilitation center.
"It's a class that I do that I enjoy and my brain enjoys it and my body enjoys it," he said.
Neurologist Ronald Tarrel prescribes yoga for his brain injury patients.
"You can work on these separate areas that each patient with brain injury may have to focus, their balance, their strength, their breathing - which is ultimately very important, movement in general, posture and stability."
Instructor Sara Cahanes has watched Steve's progress.
"Not only has balance improved, coordination has improved, listening to cueing and reacting has improve."
Yvonne says yoga has also brought calm to their lives and reduced stress. For Steve, the poses, are no longer a struggle.
"I feel good afterwards," he said.
