In a van usually reserved for picking up records people sell, Matt Vaughn of West Seattle’s Easy Street Records is now using it to drop off records people buy.
You or someone you know has probably gotten emails from Uber Eats, Postmates, Doordash and others offering "contact-free delivery" amid the coronavirus outbreak, but it's not just food that you can have brought to your door; it’s music too.
As the coronavirus impact spreads, Vaughn saw a chance to help. The West Seattle musical institution now brings music to the people with a special record delivery service.
“We’re trying to find some sort of silver lining. A lot of places are closing, and we're just trying to keep a positive attitude,” Vaughn said.
Vaughn said Easy Street feels a responsibility to provide normalcy in the neighborhood they’ve called home for decades. With Washington’s emphasis on social distancing, customers can order records online and Vaughn and his son Archie will bring them right to the customers.
“If all you’re making in business is money, then you got a poor business,” Vaughn said.
Easy Street is also working on how to address social distancing at their shop and helping musicians who find themselves unable to perform shows with the crowd restrictions.
Vaughn said since delivery service launched on Saturday, they’ve already had more than a dozen orders. Easy Street will likely continue delivery once the outbreak is over.
“West Seattle's been good to Easy Street, and we're trying to bring the music to the people,” Vaughn said.
